The videos, apparently filmed in April, were handed over to Senator Piedad Cordoba, who has in the past helped to arrange hostage releases.

In the videos, the nine men greeted their families, told them not to worry and said that they still loved them.

One of the hostages, Corporal Jose Libio Martinez, made an emotional address to the son he has never seen.

The highest-ranking hostage in guerrilla hands, Luis Mendieta, who was promoted from police colonel to general in April, called for efforts to secure the return of "the living dead".

The Farc have long pressed for a swap of 23 members of the security forces for imprisoned guerrillas.

Mr Uribe insists that the rebels must release their hostages unilaterally.

The latest footage follows last month's release of two videos showing a soldier and a police officer, who appealed to people not to forget them.

Members of the security forces are regarded as "high-profile" hostages but ordinary Colombians are also kidnapped, usually for ransom.
