17/09/2015 | Nigeria Vs. North America: Role Reversal

The Globalist Staff

North America’s population is currently twice as large as Nigeria’s. By 2100, it will be the other way around.

1. The combined population of the United States and Canada today — at 358 million — is nearly twice Nigeria’s current population of 182 million.

2. Nigeria’s population will more than quadruple in size (313%) — to reach 752 million by 2100.

3. At the end of this century, Nigeria’s population will exceed that of North America by 400 million people.

4. Meanwhile, the population of the United States is expected to grow from 321 million today to 450 million by 2100 — an increase of 129 million (or 40%).

5. The continued growth in Nigeria’s population until 2100 alone — at 570 million — will be almost 30% larger than the entire U.S. population in 2100.

6. For every additional American, there will be 4.4 additional Nigerians.

7. Nigeria’s population is expected to surpass the U.S. population sometime in the late-2040s.

The Upshot

North America’s population is currently twice as large as Nigeria’s. By 2100, it will be the other way around.
