KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik held a meeting on law and order situation and ordered the police and other LEAs to make foolproof security for the City during the holy month of Ramadan.

 

They discussed matters of mutual interest, political situation and law and order situation of the province particularly Karachi, which is economic hub of the country. Both the leaders reviewed the current law and order situation in Karachi, and decided to take serious action against extortionists and target killers.

It was observed that Karachi is a big and thickly populated city and any type of killing, is not a target killing, and urged the electronic and print media not to term all killings as target killings. They urged the media not to create panic among the people.

The federal advisor and Sindh chief minister decided that wherever there is any crime, the SHO of relevant area will be held responsible.

It was also decided that IGP and all agencies including CID and special branch should make all out efforts for curbing the criminals’ activities with coordination of police department.

With regard to collection of Fitrana amount in Ramadan, it was observed that Chief Justice of Pakistan has already directed that intending persons or institutions should install tents where people can handover amount of Fitrana, while the groups riding vehicles would not be allowed to collect Fitrana amount.

It was decided that ‘chit mafia’ will be dealt accordingly and could be detained under MPO. It was further decided that FIRs will be lodged against persons supporting criminals and ‘chit mafia’ and peace will be fully restored and maintained in Karachi. It was further decided that patrolling of police and Rangers would be increased, police pickets will monitor the criminals and surprise raids will be conducted against criminals. Special measures will be adopted during Ramadan and lives and properties of people will be fully protected.

Rehman Malik assured the chief minister that all agencies of federal government will provide all cooperation to provincial government for curbing crimes and anti-social elements. It was hoped that with concerted effort, the activities of ‘chit mafia’ will be crushed particularly during Ramadan.

The chief minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari has also directed to strictly maintain the law and order. He said that the tendency of crime particularly the target killings etc had decreased and it is expected that the same will be further reduced. Shah informed that the president had assured that more and latest weapons will be provided to Sindh Police for timely and prompt action against criminals.

Meanwhile, Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Karachi School for Business and Leadership, addressed a seminar organized by the Marketing Association of Pakistan (MAP). The moot was titled ‘Redefining Leadership- Transforming Pakistan’, says a statement on Thursday.

It said that the seminar was part of MAP’s series ‘Pakistan - Islands of Excellence’, which is held every month and invites icons from various industries and the civil society to share their experience and thoughts on how they believe Pakistan can be transformed into a progressive and successful state.

Masood Hashmi, President Marketing Association of Pakistan, gave an introduction of the guest speaker.  Hussain Dawood underlined the challenges faced by Pakistan and highlighted formal and informal education as a long term solution; formal education to develop expertise and skills and informal education to develop ethics, integrity and a good value system.

He emphasised upon the importance of teamwork and stressed that the civil society should come together to develop institutions as centres of excellence to educate people.

Hussain also said ‘We want to take education to scale. The Karachi School for Business and Leadership (KSBL) is the first institution that has entered into a strategic collaboration with the University of Cambridge in its 800 years history.

This collaboration ensures that world-class education, customized to Pakistan’s business environment is imparted from day one at KSBL, it was further pointed out.
