The Peruvian and Chilean deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Defense will meet in the bilateral Committee on Security and Defense (Cosede) which will be held on Friday 16 in Lima, to address issues on the common agenda, less than a month before the start of the maritime dispute’s hearings between the two countries.
According to the director general for the Americas at Peru’s Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Claudio de la Puente, this meeting complements the meeting of Border Integration and Development to be held on November 15 and 16 in Arica.
"The cooperation agenda has not stopped and it is significant that, despite the hearings in The Hague, it does not interfere with carrying out the will of the two peoples to continue building their bilateral relationship," he told Andina news agency.
He stressed that the meeting in Lima is a sort of "2+2", but at the level of deputy ministers, which also shows that relations in this sector remain between the two nations.
Among other objectives, the Cosede aims to raise official contacts for increased trust and mutual understanding between the armed forces of both countries and intensified bilateral cooperation and transparence.
