24/04/2013 | Cuba and Saudi Arabia Sign Agreement on Water Supply Project

Caribbean Journal- Staff

Cuba and Saudi Arabia have signed a bilateral agreement aiming to rehabilitate water networks in Havana, Cuba’s government announced.

The agreement will involve $30 million in funding from the Saudi Fund for Development; the money will target efforts to improve the city’s drinking water supply.

The pact was signed during a visit to Cuba by Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, Saudi Arabia’s Finance Minister.

Abdulaziz Al-Assaf reportedly expressed his interest in expanding bilateral ties to other sectors and promoting Saudi exports to the Caribbean island, along with increased medical cooperation.

He had previously visited Cuba in 2010, when the Saudi Fund approved a line of credit to acquire medical equipment targeting breast care centres in Cuba.
